Our History and Founder

My earliest memory of the window industry was from 1972, when I was six years old, helping my dad, a carpenter, to make PVC windows in a  redundant chicken shed in my nans back garden in Dorset. In those days the frames were fixed together much like Ikea furniture. It was revolutionary!

My parents were “serial renovators” of period property so it seemed we were mostly living on building sites during my child hood,  until the projects were complete. We lived in an old school that we converted, a thatched cottage and other lovely country property.

When I left school, at 16, I trained as a window fitter with my dad in Dorset. At 20 I moved to London, with friends, sub contracting window fitting work for multiple window companies in central London. I liked PVC as material for windows, being low maintenance and high performance, but the period look was still missing.

In 1987, when I was 21, I started Bespoke Windows, in a railway arch in Waterloo, specifically to provide "High tech traditional” versions of sash windows, believing that period home owners want three things from sash windows: traditional look, high performance and low maintenance.

This “why” has never changed, but has informed our actions and product design ever since.

Today the team at Bespoke Windows Ltd are more experienced, committed and skilled than ever, with 9 out of 10 of the team having worked with us for over ten years. 37 years later we still get a buzz out sharing our latest “high tech traditional” design updates with period homeowners.
